Stephenson Kakum IMG 8870 edAbout the Park

Copmrising 360 square kilometers, kakum offers visitors spectacular scenery fascinating experiences and camping facilities. A very nice visitor centres including extensive exhibits, a full restaurant and a gift shop operated by Aid to Artisans Ghana. The park's most well know feature is its 333-meter-long  canopy walkway suspeneded from more than 300- year-old rainforest trees up to 27 meters( up to 12 stroies) above the forest floor. the view is breathtaking ( and may be too much for visitors uncomfortable with heights) The walkway is often quite crowded during mid-day, disturbing the magic of the forest sights and sounds. Early morning and later afternoon visits are usually less crowded and also offer the most dramatic light for  iewing. Whiles birds monkeys are sometimes seen from the walkway, wildlife viewing is likely to be sparse even if you arrive very early.

The canopy walk is only a hint of the kakum's delights. it has a varity of trails and guided walks on which visitors can expeiences rainforest solitude. it is a premier birding site, with 269 confirmed species including 8 species of global conservation concern. mammals include forest elephant, Leopard, bongo, bushbuck and many primates but game viewing is difficult. More than 400 butterfly species have been recorded.
