Ntonso is the homeland of adinkra cloth and the only town in Ghana where traditional adinkra i produced from scratch. That is to say, it is the only town where all the necessary inputs for the traditional type of adinkra cloth are locally manufactured and it is still the biggest producer of adinkra in Ghana. Adinkra cloth, with tis well-know symbols imbued with tradition and proverbial wisdom, was originally used in the Ashanti Region only for the funerals and produced mainly in black, brown and red. These days however, adinkra cloth is uesd throughout Ghana in all colours of the rainbow.Ntono has a new visitor centre and offers official guided tours. the walking tour allows visitor to see all aspects of adinkra production in close proximity and you can also try using hand ink stamps yourself.

Things to Do

  •  Stop at the visitor centre to arrange your tour and have refreshments at the open-air restaurant.
  • Take a guided walking tour to see village resident engaged in the vriuo stages of adinkra production, including dye preparation, cloth dyeing, adinkra stamping and embroidery of stamped cloth. Time: 1 hour. Difficulty: 1 
  • Tour the village of Ntonso. including its historical tree and shrine. Time 45 minutes.Difficulty: 1
