About the Grove
The strikingly beautiful sandstone rock formations within the Tano Sacred Grove, along with the interesting history and cultura of the grove and other attractions, make this highly enjoyable site to visit. The grove is located within a semi-deciduou forest and 130 hectare conservation area created by the village of Tanoboase. Taakora, the highest of the Akans gods on the earth is believed to dwell at the sources of the Tano River within the grove, making it a sacred place.
Stop at the visior centre summer hut in the village( marked by a large sign) to plan your tours.
Things to Do
- Take a guided tour of the sacred grove, learn its fascinating histroy and be rewarded with a stunning panoramic view. The hike involves ome fairly strenuou roak scrambling, but the rough rock surface grip well and are not slippery when dry. Time: 2 hours. Difficulty:3
- Tour the village with a guide to see local farms, food being harvested and prepared,homes,schools and workplaces. Time: 1 hours. Difficulty: 1
- Visit the Christ Buase Monastery in the village and tour its exerior and interrior. Time: 1 hour. Difficulty: 1
- Experienec local dancing and drumming as evening entertainment if you are spending the night in the village and enjoy trying both yourself. Time: flexible.
